Sales tax gains continue across Wood County

The November sales tax report for Wood County shows across-the-board gains for every city and the county government for the month and the year.

County retailers reported collecting $760,102 on sales, a gain of nearly 14% from $667,548 in November 2020.

The collections represent primarily sales made in September and reported to the state in October.

Merchants collect all local sales tax in addition to the state’s 6.25% tax, and the state comptroller’s office rebates cities and counties their shares monthly.

The six cities in Wood County each collect a 1.5% tax while Wood County collects a half-cent for the total maximum tax rate of 8.25%.

For the first 11 months of the year, the seven entities have collected $7,691,204 compared to $7,010,332 at this time last year, up almost 10%.

Wood County received $228,027 as its November rebate. That’s a 17.66% gain over November 2020 when sales taxes generated $193,785. For the year the county has earned $2,354,714, up almost 10% from the $2,148,929 received a year ago.

Mineola’s November rebate of $245,289 jumped 15.45% from November 2020 when $212,462 came in. For the year the city’s receipts are up 9.37% from $2,188,704 in 2020 to $2,393,990 this year.

Quitman shows a gain of 4% this year, with income of $818,507 this year compared to $786,908 last year.

The November rebate totaled $74,654, a 6% gain since November 2020 at $70,415.

The city of Winnsboro benefited from $135,460 in sales tax revenue in November, a 6.8% gain over November 2020. For the year the city has earned $1,380,296 for an 8.57% increase.

Alba sales tax income of $29,071 for the month represents a gain of more than 20% over November 2020. For the year the city has booked $247,9988, up 13.74% from 2020’s income of $218,022.

Hawkins took in $37,053 in November, up almost 20% since last year when $30,937 came in. That brought the yearly total to $397,755, a 28% jump.

Yantis received a November rebate of $10,546 compared to $9,000 last year, up 17.2%. Yearly income of $97,743 is almost 14% ahead of last year’s $86,125.
