Quitman nurse receives award for patient care

Jennifer Ogle, BSN, RN, received the DAISY Award for outstanding patient care at UT Health Quitman.

Ogle, an emergency room nurse, was nominated for the award by a coworker, who said she is an exceptional caregiver to her patients and her coworkers alike.

“She is always looking out for her patients, co-workers, various departments in the hospital and to family members,” the nomination read. “Her thoughts are never limited to just the tasks at hand. She considers the next shift and how events will affect them.”

The nomination noted her superb clinical knowledge and her attention to detail in every aspect of her job.

“Jennifer has the whole picture in mind when she is on duty. She is able to recognize an emergency situation and act appropriately,” the nomination continued. “Jennifer not only supports the patient but the family as well. Her compassion shows in the care she gives to others.”

As a winner of the DAISY Award, Ogle received a certificate, a DAISY Award pin and a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe. Awards are presented throughout the year at celebrations attended by the honoree’s colleagues, patients and visitors.

The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 at age 33 from complications of an autoimmune disease (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families. Today, this program has been implemented in more the 1,900 healthcare facilities, including UT Health East Texas.
