Quitman Library Connections
The Quitman Public Library is participating in the month-long “Register in September – Vote in November” campaign, and volunteers will be available in the library’s front lobby Sept. 15 to assist with voter registration. National Voter Registration Day is the country’s largest single-day, nonpartisan voter registration drive. Voter registration forms are also available year-round at the library’s front desk.
September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, so stop in and apply for the smartest card around. Library cards are available to those who provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.
The Pilot Club of Quitman sponsors Dolly’s Imagination Library, a program that makes it possible for every child from birth to age 5 to receive a free, age-appropriate book by mail each month. Children living in ZIP codes 75783, 75410 and 75497 may be enrolled at no cost. Stop by the library’s front desk to sign up and have your picture made with our cardboard Dolly cutout!
There is always something to do at the library. Friends of the Library invites the public to join this volunteer group of library supporters. The first meeting of the FY27 season is Thursday, Sept. 10 at noon.
Free knitting and crochet instruction is offered each Thursday from 2-4 p.m. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and patterns to trade.
The Wood County Metal Detector Club, led by Jerry Tinney, meets on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room.
Whyte Dove Writers’ Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 6-8:30 p.m. at the library. Consider joining this distinctive group of local published authors.
The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will meet Monday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. in the library’s community room.

Tutoring is available each Wednesday at 4 p.m. Whether you are studying for a General Educational Development (GED) certificate or just brushing up on your math skills, it is easier when you have a professional tutor to guide you through the process. Looking for a place to hold your event? The library offers a spacious community room equipped with technology as well as a kitchenette. For lease information, contact the front desk at 903-763-4191.
Visit the Quitman Public Library website for access to the TexShare database, which offers more than 27,000 journals, 171,000 eBooks and 15 million images, videos and interactive resources. Patrons can also connect to the library’s collection of eBooks, audiobooks and streaming videos by downloading the Libby app.
Library cards are free for Wood County residents with photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17. Library hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wi-Fi is available 24/7.
