Quitman Library Connections
On Saturday, Feb. 28 at 10:30 a.m., the Wood County TX Genealogical Society will host a special volunteer workshop to assist family history researchers. They will meet in the library’s Genealogy Research Reference Room. At their workshop, the society will tour the archive room, explain location of resources by category, and do hands-on activities. The society’s regular meetings are every 3rd Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room.
Earning a GED certificate is easier to navigate when you have an instructor to guide you through the process. Free tutoring is available at the library each Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. It is guided by a degreed and professionally trained tutor who specializes in math and essay writing. QPL Knitting & Crochet Class regularly meets each Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library. Students of all ages and skill levels are invited to join this growing group. Classes are free.
Whyte Dove Writers Group meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at the library. You are welcome to join this group of regional authors, editors, and aspiring writers who meet to discuss, review and share techniques. This workshop is open to the public.
The next meeting of the Friends of the Library will be Thursday, May 14 at noon. The Friends now meet quarterly in the library’s community room on the 2nd Thursday of February, May, September, and December.
The Wood County Metal Detector Club, led by Jerry Tinney, meets on the 1st Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the library. The public is invited.
Board Games for Teens group meets every other Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. in the community room. Bring board games and snacks to share. This group is organized by Homeschoolers – Wood County, Texas and is designed for teens ages 13 to 19. Call the library to confirm game days.
Notary service is available at the library during regular business hours. Walk-ins are welcome, but to guarantee an appointment, call the library.
