Quitman Lady Bulldogs find their groove on the road

The Quitman Lady Bulldogs experienced both ends of the softball spectrum last week, bouncing back from a tough home loss with a decisive road victory that showcased them at their best.

Early in the week, Quitman struggled to find its footing against Grand Saline at home, falling 22-1. Despite the lopsided final score, there were a few bright spots for the Lady Bulldogs. Elizabeth Boykin accounted for Quitman’s lone RBI, while Chloe Jones battled at the pitcher’s mound for four innings. Defensive errors proved costly, as several unearned runs allowed the game to slip away quickly.

Traveling to Winona on Friday, Quitman flipped the script in dominant fashion, rolling to a 20-0 win fueled by explosive hitting and a flawless defense. The Lady Bulldogs wasted no time setting the tone, capitalizing on early opportunities and scoring 15 runs in the third inning that put the game well out of reach for the Wildcats.

Abby Johnson led the team with a standout performance, driving in five runs on three hits. Her inside-the-park home run in the third inning was a highlight of the game. Chloe Jones also sparked excitement with an inside-the-park homerun, in addition to contributing at the plate and in the field.

The offensive force didn’t stop there. Kori Hammond was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4, and Audrina Gist delivered a major bases-clearing triple during the big third inning. Contributions came from throughout the lineup, including multi-hit efforts from Reagan Watson and Taylor Drinkwine, as Quitman managed an impressive 17 hits on the day.

At the pitcher’s circle, Jaleigh Hood was dominant, tossing three hitless innings while striking out five and allowing just one walk. The defense showed their support turning a double play and committing no errors – a complete 180 degree turn from earlier in the week.

The turnaround from Tuesday to Friday highlighted the Lady Bulldogs’ ability to regroup and execute. With momentum now on their side, Quitman will look to carry that energy forward as they wind up the regular season Tuesday at Edgewood.
