Quitman ISD does groundbreaking on facility improvement projects
Green is the color for St. Patrick’s Day, but blue was the predominant color in Quitman Tuesday, March 17 as the community celebrated the start of construction on the Quitman school district’s $30 million in facility improvements.
A drum line and cheerleaders added to the festivities at the official kickoff for a lengthy list of new, renovated and expanded facilities.
“What a special community we get to be a part of,” Superintendent Chris Mason said. He pointed to the great support the school district receives, adding, “This is an exciting time for us.”
The district is proud of the people it is putting out into the world, Mason said, and he invited them to come back to their hometown and be a part of a great community.
The students are a reflection of the community, he said, and QISD will be adding to that legacy thanks to the improvements funded by the bond, which will have a lasting impact for 50 to 100 years.
Passage of the school bond last May represents a deep trust, Mason concluded.
School Board President Raymond Peek said, “We are gathered here not just to break ground on expanding the district, but to lay the foundation for opportunity, growth and a stronger future for our students and our community.
“This project represents a shared vision – one built through collaboration, dedication and belief in the power of education. Expanding our educational opportunities today will soon become a place where young minds are inspired, talents are discovered, and lifelong memories are made.”
Several student groups also offered their thanks for the project from which they will soon benefit, which includes medical services, agriculture and athletics.
Representatives from each campus also participated.
