QDC gets business progress updates
The Quitman Development Corporation (QDC) heard updates from Executive Director Rodney Kieke at Monday’s meeting.
Kieke had spoken to the landscaping company working on the parking lot on the north side of the downtown square. Turner Landscaping will be able to continue work after several days of rain slowed the process. They will soon be adding rock to some of the areas.
As far as the Minuteman Ordance Company gun and ammunition business on the square, they have been negotiating a sale price at the location on the square that used to house the Wood County Democrat. They have been working on a buy-sell agreement. The gun shop is planning on using an Alamo theme for the project.
Kieke reported that Stitchin’ Heaven is working on clearing land west of the current facility for the next phase of their operation which will be a distribution center warehouse. There will be an area where large trucks can come in and be able to turn around.
Kieke also reported on the Duke Propane property downtown on E. Goode Street. The owners have not decided whether to sell or lease the property.
A new boutique is trying to get opened in downtown Quitman. “They have been moving stuff in slowly and have pushed back their opening until July,” Kieke said.
The new gravel business just south of the Red Dome restaurant reported people have been using their lot to turn around. “When you have a driveway on a main road you have everybody use it to turn around,” Kieke said. The owners have put up a chain to stop the problem.
The board went into closed session but returned with no action. The next regular meeting is July 12.
