Old Glory will fly high over Mineola once again
The tallest flag pole in Wood County is getting new life.
Located in front of My Credit Union on W. Broad St. in Mineola, the pole, more than 80 feet high, is being brought back to life.
A tall crane was stationed in front of the business last Thursday to lift the repairman to the top of the pole, where he removed an eagle ornament as well as a large ball.
My Credit Union manager Jeff Hurley planned to place the eagle on a pedestal inside the businesses with a plaque explaining its history.
Hurley said that once the new hardware is installed, the pole will fly an American flag that is 15 by 25 feet.
It will fly at all times, illuminated by lights atop the credit union building.
He said the flags will have to be replaced about every six months due to wear.
Hurley was unsure of the age of the pole, but its mechanism has not been operational for many years.
