Official dedication held for second phase of skate park

Five years ago, it seemed like an impossible dream.

But when the second phase of the Mineola Skate Park was officially dedicated Friday, amidst a few seasonal costumes, the reality left no doubt.

Mineola hosts a concrete skate park as good as any in the region.

And the number of skaters who showed up for the Halloween night contests attested to its growing popularity.

Susan Witt, whose son Nathan hatched the idea in 2020 to convert the small, all-wooden park to a much larger and sustainable venue, listed many of those who played a role in reaching the reality on the property owned by St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, which helped nurse along the wooden park for many years.

Her list included the following: Our Lord Jesus Christ, St. Paul MBC and Pastor Boyd, Bobby King and crew, Dragon Concrete, Mineola Meredith Foundation, Lisa and David Barker with Eagle Oil, CMC (Sam and Joyce Curry’s son-in-law), Hurst Plumbing, Yellowjacket Welding, Mineola Ready Mix, Chuck Desmond, Grayling Jones Construction, Dwain Henry, Justice of the Peace Janae Holland, Deborah Mushock-Reel Inn Lodge, Auston and Haeley Arnold  with Shred the Word, Rick’s Powerwashing, Mineola Brookshires, Perkins Rentals, City of Mineola, Wood County Monitor, several community volunteers, and Flint and Steel board members Aaron Cavitt, Randy Munoz, Michael Thompson, Wendy Kirk, Nathan Witt, Todd Witt and Susan Witt.
