Mineola, Winona to meet in “Our Day to Shine” scrimmage
Mineola and Winona will meet Friday, Aug. 14, in a preseason football scrimmage benefiting the Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation Benevolence Fund.
The JV scrimmage begins at 6 p.m., with the varsity set to follow at 7:15 p.m.
The scrimmage is part of the THSCEF’s annual “Our Day to Shine” program. Participating schools donate gate receipts, minus expenses, from a designated scrimmage or spring game to the Benevolence Fund, which provides assistance to student-athletes and coaches facing hardships.
More than 1,165 schools have participated in the program, raising more than $721,000. The Benevolence Fund has paid out more than $641,000 to athletes and coaches.
Although Our Day to Shine is often held during football scrimmages, the program is open to all sports. Schools can choose a scrimmage or spring game to raise money for the fund.
For Mineola and Winona, Friday’s scrimmage will be a chance to get some early work on the field while raising money for fellow athletes and coaches across Texas.
