A three percent increase in the cost of garbage service was approved by the Mineola City Council Monday, May 22.

It becomes effective July 1 and means a 34-cent per month increase for residents to $11.85.

Commercial rates are not affected.

The council also accepted the annual donation from Republic Services for $1,000 to benefit the Mineola Main Street program.

A street closure request and event permit were approved for They Got Your Six Foundation to hold a benefit corn hole tournament Saturday, June 24 for W. Commerce and S. Johnson Streets.

It will include food trucks and vendors. Some 15 pro teams are scheduled to compete, along with amateurs.

The foundation raises money to assist veterans and first responders.

A service plan and annexation were approved for a lot in the Minwood Addition for Eric and Terri Dievendorf, who plan to build a home on two lots, one of which was outside the city limits.
