The Mineola Lady Jackets were unable to tame the visiting Lady Tigers, falling 40-37 to Mt. Vernon last Tuesday.
Up 8-4 early, Mineola trailed by two after a quarter. The deficit ballooned to as much as 10 and Mt. Vernon led 24-15 at the half.
The Lady Jackets scored three unanswered buckets to start the second half and quickly close the gap two three points in just three minutes.
The Lady Tigers would not yield. Having played clean ball in the third quarter, Mineola had to waste precious seconds accumulating enough fouls to get into the bonus and send Mt. Vernon to the free throw line.
Despite The Lady Jackets’s many valiant efforts to close the gap, they only managed to get it to two with 11 seconds left on a turnaround jumper from the baseline by Mylee Fischer, who led Mineola with 12 points on the night.
