Mineola splits district matches
The Mineola Lady Jackets went 1-1 in district play last week with a four-set loss to Eustace and a three-set win over Winona.
Mineola took the first set against Eustace 27-25, but Eustace came back to win the second 25-20. The third set was another close one, with Eustace winning 26-24 before taking the fourth 25-18 for the match.
Canyon Redding had 33 kills, three aces and 11 digs for Mineola. Kaitlyn McMahon recorded 34 digs, three assists and an ace.
Callie Black finished with six kills, 36 assists and three aces. Journie Wilson had six kills, an ace and two blocks.
“We've been playing well. We are in a very tough district so every play and every game is important,” head coach Tashara Ryder said.
Mineola followed the loss with a three-set win over Winona, 25-7, 25-5 and 25-13.
Redding recorded 16 kills, six aces and five digs. Adalyn Steward had six kills and a block, while Milo Reed added six kills.
Black finished with 20 assists, two aces and five digs.
The Lady Jackets finished the first round of district play with a 4-2 record, tied with Malakoff. Eustace and Scurry-Rosser were tied for first at 5-1. Edgewood finished the first round at 2-4, followed by Grand Saline at 1-5 and Winona at 0-6.
Mineola’s JV1 team also had a good week, winning both matches 2-0. Eustace defeated Mineola’s JV2 team 2-0.
