Mineola receives $5,000 grant; budget adoption moved
The Mineola Nature Preserve Events and Programs received a $5,000 grant from Republic Services during a special meeting of the Mineola City Council Sept. 14.
Republic Services Municipal Services Manager Greg Keenon presented the grant to Mineola Marketing and Tourism Director Jennifer Henson.
The council also voted unanimously to move adoption of the city’s 2026-27 budget from Sept. 21 to Sept. 28 to allow adequate time for proper public notice.
Council member Terry Eaton made the motion to change the adoption date, which was seconded by Greg Souser.
The proposal would increase the city’s total property-tax levy by 9.92%. It also provides a 3% cost-of-living adjustment for city personnel, along with a 2% merit increase for outstanding employees.
City officials said the raises are intended to help recruit and retain qualified employees.
A scheduled public hearing was also held during the special meeting, but no public comments were registered. The hearing was subsequently closed with no comments.
