Mineola man sentenced to 25 years in prison for assault
A Mineola man will spend 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to a felony family violence assault charge.
Christopher Lynn Combs, 50, was sentenced Thursday, Sept. 24, after pleading guilty to the third-degree felony offense of assault causing bodily injury-family violence with a previous conviction. He was sentenced to 25 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and ordered to pay court costs.
According to the Wood County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, Combs’ wife, Diane Combs, called 911 Dec. 13, 2025, and reported that her husband had attacked and beaten her.
Mineola Police Department Sgt. Andre Thompson and officers Ryan Alexander and Brad Overton responded to the residence.
Diane Combs told officers she had been resting in her room when Combs entered and became angry because she had blocked him on Facebook. She said Combs “went off” and began punching her in the face, head and torso with his fists.
She told officers she used a pillow to protect her face and was eventually able to push Combs away. Combs fled the scene after she called 911, according to the district attorney’s office.
Diane Combs was treated by emergency medical personnel and later went to the hospital because of neck pain.
Mineola Police Department Investigator Terri Cole followed up on the case, meeting with Diane Combs and taking a statement from Christopher Combs when he came to the police department. Based on the investigation, Mineola police filed a felony case with the Wood County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
Judge J. Brad McCampbell of the 402nd Judicial District Court presided over the case. After hearing evidence concerning the assault and Combs’ previous stalking conviction, McCampbell sentenced him to 25 years in prison and ordered him to pay court costs.
At the state’s request, McCampbell also granted a protective order for the victim that will remain in effect until 2053.
“Domestic violence affects all members of society. It is an evil choice and should not be tolerated. This 25-year sentence will afford the Defendant time to consider his crime and it will also protect his victim. I am especially grateful for the hard work of the Mineola Police Department in its efforts to keep our communities safe,” Wood County Criminal District Attorney Angela Albers said.
