Happy Halloween! OK, it’s still a few days away, but we wanted you to know we will be downtown outside the Historic Select Theater passing out treats. We hope to see you there. The weather should be nice for a night out.

We have our annual staff pumpkin decorating contest underway. Pumpkins can be seen as you enter the building and will be on display through Oct. 31. The winner will be announced on Facebook Saturday, Oct. 31. We’re going for bragging rights, and there are some really creative entries.

After-school STREAM has ended for the year. We haven’t yet decided if it will return in the spring. In the meantime, toddlers still gather Tuesdays at 10 a.m., preschoolers Wednesdays at 10 a.m., Homeschool Heroes on the first and third Fridays at 10 a.m., Mahjong on the second and fourth Saturdays at noon, YAC on the first Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m. and Lone Star Legal Aid on the first Tuesday of the month from 1-3 p.m.

Have an idea for a program? Please let director Mary Hurley know so the library knows what interests the community.

A reminder: When you keep a book past its due date, no one else gets to read that book. If it’s a popular title, the library may have to spend money replacing it instead of getting something new. Just something to think about.

The Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and your donation may be tax-deductible. We thank our donors for their generosity. Remember, we are still accepting monetary donations but have no room for material donations at this time.
