Mineola Library Notes
How is your summer going? It’s been great here at the Mineola Memorial Library.
We just wrapped up four weeks of visiting the primary and intermediate campuses for summer school. We took brief programs and provided opportunities for the children to borrow books. We hope they had as much fun as we did. Even Mr. Beard enjoyed his day with the primary school children.
We just finished Week 4 of our Summer Reading: Unearth a Story program. We’ve done a lot. We had a kickoff with dinosaur games; Bailey and Sunny came for Read to a Dog; Rangers Kerrick and Val visited with us about burrowing animals; we went on a dig and discovered dinosaur bones and cave paintings; and we even had a breakout room. There are three more events left to enjoy, including a special visit from Joe McDermott on Saturday, June 27, at 11 a.m. (you may have read about him in last week’s paper).
The children are working hard on reading. As a group, they have read 3,590 minutes. Stop in and take a look at how Herman the Dragon Worm is growing. Each circle on his body represents just one of those many minutes.
Stop by and enjoy the air conditioning and take a look at our book displays. You might just find your next book to read. We try to keep up with the celebrity book clubs: Read With Jenna, Reese’s Book Club, GMA Book Club and Mocha Girls Read Book Club. Sometimes we can get their books, and sometimes it takes a while. We also host the East Texas Library Friends Book Club, which will meet at the Mineola Memorial Library on Saturday, June 27, at 2 p.m. to discuss *An Author’s Guide to Murder* and select new books to read. The East Texas Perfictionists Book Club will meet Thursday, June 25, at 6 p.m. to discuss *Theo of Golden*.
We are still not accepting material donations because of limited space, but we do continue to accept monetary donations. Because the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, your donation may be tax-deductible.
