Mineola Library Notes
Happy New Year! Thank you to everyone for allowing the library staff to have an extended holiday. They work very hard all year long, and sometimes you just need to hit the pause button and take a break. We will not have another day off until April 4, 2026, so we will be here our regular hours until then.
As promised, here’s a quick summary of what we did in 2025. We hosted 185 programs in-house for toddlers to adults, and those were attended by 2,408 individuals. We offered 77 outreach events, which were attended by 982 individuals. We circulated 27,227 items, including books, audio books, and movies. The largest circulation items for adults were mysteries, followed by large print anything, and for the under-18 crowd it was standalone novels (also known as chapter books). The value of library services is $550,000 annually. That represents savings on books, audio books, DVDs, computer use and attending programs. I’d say the library is a very good investment.
What’s coming up in 2026? We’re planning for a fabulous summer reading program (we have lots of ideas on how to proceed with the soon-to -be-announced theme), continuing Toddler Story Time, Preschool Story Time, Read to a Dog, and a couple of book clubs.
We hope to see you in 2026. Please let us know what you think about the library, and what things you would like to see the library offer.
Remember, the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3 non-profit, and your donations may be tax-deductible. We have received donations from Diane Pitkin and David Lane, an anonymous contribution, and a donation in memory of Don Rhodes and in honor of Donna Lin and Myron Palmer by Linda Rhodes.
