Mineola Library Notes
We have been busy, busy, busy at the Mineola Memorial Library. We’ve started our fall programs, we attended the Iron Horse Festival, we had a book sale, the bookmobile is still making its runs, and Mary and Pam are off to a District 5 Library conference soon.
We had guests Maxi, Sarge and Bailey and their humans for Read to A Dog on Saturday, Oct. 4. We will host this event again on Saturday, Nov. 1. Be sure to bring your young readers in so they may read to these dogs as they look forward to hearing stories.
We have four patron computer stations available for use. We ask that you sign in so if we should get a line to use them, we’ll know who has been on the longest. We ask that you not download anything. If you need help, our friendly staff is available to assist you.
Sometimes when our patrons ask for assistance, it takes a minute to comprehend the query. Sometimes it’s a generational use of language or other times the request needs some clarification. We will work with you if you will work with us.
We are constantly weeding (removing books that do not circulate or, in the case of non-fiction, are no longer current) followed up by inventory to make sure what we think is in a given area really is there. Keeping accurate labels at the top of the bookcases in adult fiction is a challenge. To help remedy that, we have shelf markers that indicate where one section ends and another begins.
Just an early heads up as the holidays come rushing at us. We will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 26 and Thursday, Nov. 27 for Thanksgiving. In December, we will be closed Dec. 23-25 for Christmas and Dec. 30 to Jan. 1 for New Years. As always, when we are closed, the WiFi is still accessible and the book drops are open for returns.
We have received memorial donations for Don Rhodes from Russell and Robin Bush and the First Baptist Sonshine Class; for Betty Groepper by the Delphians; and for George Wilson from Jack and Doris Newman and Sandra Tiner.
Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit. Your donations may be tax-deductible.
