Mineola gets more sales tax than Wood County
The Texas Comptroller’s Office has released its monthly sales tax report.
The report represents mostly taxes collected by businesses in November. Sales tax numbers are expected to increase in February’s report, since they will represent a December Christmas rush.
The six cities in the county each collect a 1.5% tax on retail sales, while Wood County collects 0.5%. Combined with the state’s 6.25%, that makes the tax rate 8.25% inside the cities.
According to the report, Mineola has made $287,044 in 2026 sales tax — more than double what any other city made. The next closest city is Winnsboro, at $126,932. The city with the least 2026 sales tax is Yantis, at $12,042,90, which is a 6.55% drop from their sales tax in January 2025.
The only two cities in Wood County to receive less in January 2026 than they did in January 2025 were Yantis and Alba, who made $29,283 (5.6% less than last year).
Hawkins did 23.20% better than it did in 2025, bringing in $52,707. Quitman did 10.75% better, at $87,089.
Wood County’s sales tax income grew 15.73% since 2025 and was $283,765.
