Filing began Wednesday, Jan. 18 for a place on the bal- lot for the May 6 city council and school board elections. The filing period extends through Feb. 17.

Local election filing period begins
Filing began Wednesday, Jan. 18 for a place on the bal- lot for the May 6 city council and school board elections. The filing period extends through Feb. 17.
City council terms are for two years while school board terms last three years.
The Mineola city council will have four positions on the ballot, three council positions and the mayor. Incumbents include Mayor Jayne Lankford and council members Mitch Tuck, Jack Newman and Terry Eaton.
In Quitman Mayor Randy Dunn’s seat will be on the ballot along with council members Brad Medlin and David Hobbs.
Alba Mayor Don Heinert is up for reelection along with council positions held by Debbie Shaddox and Tammy Kelbe.
Yantis Mayor Trey Norris’ seat is up for election along with those of council members Julie Mattox and Reed Gammill.
Incumbents for school board positions include John Abbott and Rodney Watkins for Mineola for full terms and Todd Morgan for a 1-year unexpired term.
Quitman incumbents are Jane Herring and Vanessa Simpkins.
Alba-Golden board terms expiring are held by Brad Lennon, Jason Stovall and Randall Cole.
Yantis board incumbents include Jennifer Larkin and Jennifer McKeever.
