Lady Panthers eliminated, Yellowjackets extended to third game

The Alba-Golden Lady Panthers fell to Union Grove 9-7 Friday night in Emory in the state softball playoffs.

The Lady Panthers had built a 7-3 lead going into the bottom of the 6th when Union Grove rallied for six runs with three doubles, three walks, an error and fielder's choice to take its only lead of the game.

Alba-Golden broke on top with three runs in the first and three more in the second. Union Grove got a pair in the third and one in the fifth. Alba-Golden added a run in the top of the sixth.

Each team had nine hits and three errors.

The sixth inning also proved decisive in Mineola's 4-3 baseball playoff loss to New Diana, setting up the deciding game three Saturday at 1 p.m. back at Driller Park in Kilgore.

The Jackets were nursing a 3-1 lead when New Diana rallied to tie it at 3-3 in the sixth, then got the game winning run on two hits and and error in the 7th.

The game was 3-1 after one inning with no more scoring until the sixth.
