Lady Hawks split road matches
The Hawkins Lady Hawks split a pair of road matches last week, defeating King’s Academy in four sets before coming up short in a five-set battle at Alto.
Hawkins opened the week Monday with a 3-1 victory over King’s Academy in Tyler.
The Lady Hawks edged King’s Academy 28-26 in a tight opening set before taking the second 25-20. King’s Academy kept the match alive with a 25-22 victory in the third, but Hawkins responded with a dominant fourth set, winning 25-9 to close out the match.
The win improved Hawkins to 12-8 on the season.
The Lady Hawks returned to the road Friday, where Alto handed Hawkins a 3-2 loss in a back-and-forth match.
Alto took the opening set 25-22 before Hawkins answered with a 25-17 victory in the second. Alto regained the advantage with another 25-22 win in the third, but the Lady Hawks again responded, taking the fourth 25-18 to force a deciding fifth set.
Alto prevailed 15-10 in the final set to secure the match.
Despite the loss, Hawkins outscored Alto 104-100 across the five sets. The loss snapped a four-match road winning streak and left the Lady Hawks at 12-9 on the season.
Hawkins opened district play Tuesday on the road against Union Grove.
