Lady Bulldogs drop two games in district play

Despite the lively crowd and a spirited small-town rivalry setting the stage March 31 in Quitman, Mineola rolled past Quitman with ease, defeating them 11-3 in seven innings.

Quitman struck first in the opening inning, taking advantage of a passed ball and a dropped third strike to score an early run and energize the home crowd. The Bulldogs showed determination throughout, continuing to compete against a strong Mineola squad.

Mineola answered in the second inning, using timely hitting and a Quitman error to take the lead. Jadelyn Marshall delivered a triple down the right field line, helping spark the rally. The Yellowjackets then broke things open in the third inning, scoring four runs. Journie Wilson highlighted the inning with a home run to center field, driving in three runs, while Bailey McQuilliams added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead.

At the plate, Mineola’s offense stayed productive all night, collecting 13 hits. Wilson led the way with three hits, including her home run, while Marshall also had a strong showing with multiple hits and three runs batted in. Kali Chrietzberg added multiple hits and was active on the bases, stealing two bases as part of Mineola’s aggressive approach that resulted in five stolen bases overall. Contributions from Kaitlyn McMahon and Jorja Young helped keep innings alive, and the Yellowjackets’ lineup consistently applied pressure.

At the pitcher’s mound, Marshall earned the win with a complete-game performance, allowing only four hits while striking out six and walking none. Defensively, Mineola backed her up with steady play, including a double play that helped halt a Quitman rally.

Quitman continued to battle, with Elizabeth Boykin leading the Bulldogs with multiple hits while Jaleigh Hood also contributed offensively. Kori Hammond drove in a run, and Chloe Jones worked through all seven innings at the mound, showing toughness against a potent Mineola lineup.

Later in the week, Quitman returned to action for a second game in Malakoff. The Bulldogs showed strength at the plate with 10 hits, but ultimately lost 15-5 in five innings. Kori Hammond and Abby Johnson each collected two hits, while Hammond and Audrina Gist drove in runs for the Bulldogs. Despite the outcome, Quitman continued to demonstrate persistence and offensive strength as the week progressed.
