Krodel celebrating his 95th birthday
James Krodel will be celebrating his 95th birthday Friday. Krodel visits daily with his wife, Mary. Mary, 94, recently broke her hip and is rehabilitating at Heritage Healthcare in Quitman. Marine Private Krodel fought for the United States during World War II as part of the 3rd Marine Division and is one of the few remaining survivors of the battle at Iwo Jima. He was there when the 5th Marine Division raised the famous flag. He was serving on the USS Randall. Krodel served in the Marines from 1944-1946. A birthday celebration is planned at the Krodel home Saturday.
