Kratzmeyer second at state track meet
Abby Kratzmeyer of Mineola was one of two vaulters left at the state track meet in Austin this afternoon and wound up with the silver medal in the pole vault.
Now a senior, Kratzmeyer twice won the event in her freshman and sophomore years.
The winner was Joy Sherwood of Great Hearts Monte Vista, who attempted a state meet record 13'1" but was unsuccessful.
Kratzmeyer missed at 12'9". Sherwood cleared that height on her first try after needing all three attempts to get over 12'6".
Kratzmeyer had cleared 12' and 12'6" on her first try.
Three vaulters were left at 12', and one went out at 12'3". Kratzmeyer and Sherwood passed at 12'3" and moved the bar to 12'6".
Both girls had previously cleared 13' in competition, which would have tied the state meet record.
