The Mineola Yellowjackets finished off the Mt. Vernon Tigers in convicing fashion, 59-37 at home last Tuesday.
The first half was tight, with the score knotted at a dozen apiece after eight minutes.
It looked to be tied at the half, but Mineola held for the final shot, which Dawson Pendergass took on an isolated drive down the left side of the lane for a 25-23 lead.
The Tigers took a lead shortly into the third, 27-26, before the Yellowjackets went on 18-2 run to take the 16 point lead heading into the final frame.
Another run, this time of nine unanswered points, put the game out of reach.
The Mineola offensive attack was about as even as can be, with four Yellowjackets reaching double figures. Keke Martin led with 14 points and three steals, followed by Braydon Alley scoring 13 and snagging seven hard-fought rebounds. Pendergrass and Xzavien Lipscomb had a dozen each, with Lipscomb hitting four-of-five three point attempts. Pendergrass added two blocks, two steals and four rebounds.
