Jackets edge rival Quitman

The Mineola Yellowjackets and Quitman Bulldogs got in their District 13-3A game last Friday. The Yellowjackets took home a close 4-2 victory in a game moved to Grand Saline due to wet grounds in Quitman.

Jackets edge rival Quitman

The Mineola Yellowjackets and Quitman Bulldogs got in their District 13-3A game last Friday. The Yellowjackets took home a close 4-2 victory in a game moved to Grand Saline due to wet grounds in Quitman.

Mineola pitchers Kaden Bell and Jack Heard shut down the Quitman offense, giving up four hits and recording nine strikeouts. Bell worked five innings, allowing the four hits and struck out five Bulldogs. Heard pitched the final two innings for the save, striking out four.

Quitman’s Ford Tannebaum allowed five hits and four runs in five innings. Landon Richey came on in the final two innings for Quitman, striking out four batters.

Mineola used a three-run third inning and added an insurance run in the top of the fifth. Quitman had scored a run in the fourth to make it a 3-2 game. 

Braydon Alley had two hits to lead the Jacket offense. Cason Davis had a double for Mineola while Caleb Grant and Conner Gibson also had hits for the Yellowjackets. Quitman got hits from Richey, Jack Tannebaum, Justin Matthews and Mason Reynolds.  

Mineola played solid defense and shut down a Quitman rally in the bottom of the final inning, getting the last out with two Bulldog runners on base.

Mineola is still in a race for the playoffs. The Yellowjackets have games with Mt. Vernon, Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill and Winnsboro left in the season. They will celebrate Senior Night against Winnsboro in the final game.

Quitman finishes out the season Friday at Winona.
