Illnesses postpone district court trial

A case in district court involving Christopher Brant Osborne was set to begin Sept. 7 but has been postponed until early November due to illnesses among courthouse staff.

Osbourn has been charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 for less than one gram in a drug free zone. The arrest took place in the early hours of Feb. 23, 2021 at the Mineola Youth Foundation Park.

Other charges stemming from that night included possession of a controlled substance penalty group 2 one to four grams in a drug free zone, tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest or search. Osbourn may face additional trials in those cases.

District Attorney Angela Albers said, “We had to delay because at the time, there were several members of the court personnel who were ill.”

Assistant District Attorney Brandon Baade added, “We were ready to go and were going to pick a jury on Tuesday (Sept. 7), but at least three or four people came down sick on Monday.”

As personnel started coming back to work, scheduled jury trials were continued.
