Hawks soar to 3-0, face Overton
The Hawkins Hawks rolled to an impressive 56-6 route over Winona last Thursday night at Lowrance Stadium in Hawkins.
The Hawks remained perfect going 3-0 with the big win over neighboring Winona. Hawkins piled up 562 yards on offense. Quarterback Eli Smith once again worked his magic on offense. Smith accounted for 352 yards of offense and six touchdowns as the Hawks continued their high-scoring ways. The Hawk’s defense was also a factor as they forced three turnovers in the game.
Hawk receiver Eli Snider had another productive game with 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Hawks continued to show their offensive power.
The Hawks final tune-up before district play finds them traveling to undefeated Overton this Thursday to face the talented Mustangs. After that, the Hawks will open the district slate against two of the pre-season favorites in Cayuga and Carlisle back to back in the first two district contests.
The 50-point win last Thursday showed a marked difference that left little doubt this year. Last season the Hawks barely slipped by the Wildcats 28-26. This time around, the Hawks took no prisoners in dismantling Winona. In a 50 point victory. The Hawks are averaging 52.7 points per game this season and just giving up 17.3 points per game. The talented Smith at quarterback had ample support from his offensive line and talented receiving corps. Eli Snider had a great game with 114 receiving yards and two touchdowns for the Hawks.
The upcoming battle against Overton is a match-up between two solid teams. Both teams come into the game with high octane offenses.The Hawks are 3-0 and have not been closely challenged.
Overton lost their game last week to Carlisle 49-20, but defeated Harketon in the opener 38-to 2 and blasted Winona 66-21.
Overton is led by quarterback Brooks Davis who has already tossed 12 touchdown passes in the first three games. Davis has completed 60 % on 65-109 (60%) while averaging over 14 yards per catch. He has amassed a total of 925 yards passing so far this season.
Jacob Osburn is the main receiver with three touchdown catches and has hauled in 23 passes for 466 yards averaging just over 20 yards per catch. Gabriel Miller is the leading rusher with 47 carries for 309 yards and a 6.6 yards per carry in three games.
Briden Gaytan leads the defense with 39 tackles and 17 of those solo while teammate Kash Holleman also had 17 solos in his 31 tackle totals.
