Harmony’s big lead too much for Quitman
The Quitman Bulldogs showed determination and heart Friday night Sept. 26, rallying late in the second half but ultimately falling to the Harmony Eagles 35–14.
The game started as a defensive battle, with both teams trading punts and turnovers in the opening quarter.
Harmony broke through first, capitalizing on a Quitman turnover deep in Bulldog territory to score from just three yards out. The extra point made it 7-0, and the Eagles carried that lead into the second quarter.
Quitman’s defense continued to battle, highlighted by an interception from Solomon Davis, which helped stall Harmony’s offensive rhythm.
However, just before halftime, Harmony found the end zone again, extending the lead to 14-0 going into the break.
The Eagles came out strong to start the second half, scoring on their opening possession to make it 21-0.
A fumble on the ensuing kickoff gave Harmony another quick opportunity, which they turned into a touchdown and a 28-0 advantage. The Eagles added one more score late in the third quarter, pushing the margin to 35-0.
Despite the deficit, the Bulldogs refused to quit. Quitman found life when Jimmy Mullican, broke loose for a stunning 80-yard touchdown run, putting the Bulldogs on the board and shifting momentum. Moments later, quarterback Jonathan Hayes punched in another score on a keeper and added a successful two-point conversion, cutting the lead to 35-14.
Quitman continued to push until the final whistle, forcing a late fumble recovery and driving downfield one last time before time expired.
