Golden ready to celebrate the spud

The 41st Golden Sweet Potato Festival has a full lineup of activities next week leading up to festival day on Saturday, Oct. 25.

The first of two pageant nights will kick off the week on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. at the pavilion in downtown Golden. Theme is the ‘50s.

The first night features the younger participants through first grade.

A community church service is planned on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m., also at the pavilion.

The second pageant night is Thursday for the older entrants, second grade through seniors, also at 6 p.m. at the pavilion.

Friday includes the baking contest from 9 a.m. to noon (must contain sweet potatoes), mutton bustin’ is at 6 p.m. and gospel night at 7 p.m.

The big day gets an early start Saturday, Oct. 25 with the fun run at 7:30 a.m. (walk-up registration at 7). The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. followed by the tractor pull at 11, along with the opening ceremony at the pavilion.

The auction gets going at noon, and the community concert is scheduled for 6 p.m. with Line 5.
