Filing period underway for city, school elections

Filing for the May 6 city council and school board elections is underway.

For the Mineola City Council, Mayor Jayne Lankford has filed to seek a second term.

Terry Eaton has filed for reelection to Ward One, and Jack Newman has filed for reelection to the Ward Two seat on the council. A seat in Ward Three is also up for grabs. The incumbent has picked up paper work to file.

For the Mineola School Board, incumbent John Abbott has filed. Three seats are contested, one for an unexpired one-year term and two for the full three-year terms.

Vanessa Simpkins has filed for reelection to the Quitman School Board. Two seats are contested.

Quitman Mayor Randy Dunn is seeking reelection, as is council member Brad Medlin. Two council seats are contested.

Stacy Batchelor has filed for one of the two Yantis School Board seats to be decided.

Greg Branson has filed for reelection to one of the seats on the Hawkins City Council.

The city of Yantis ballot will include the mayor and two city council positions. No one had filed as of midday Tuesday.

The city of Alba has yet to have anyone file for mayor or two city council positions.

No candidates have filed for two Hawkins School Board seats.

The filing deadline extends until Friday, Feb. 17 at the respective school administration offices and city halls.
