County voters mirror state
Texas voters approved all 17 constitutional amendments in last Tuesday’s election, and Wood County voters also favored all of them.
But Hawkins ISD voters narrowly defeated the school district’s request to raise the property tax rate.
That measure failed 419-383.
Only 17.7% of Wood County registered voters, or 6,280, participated in Tuesday’s vote, which eclipsed the statewide participation which fell just below 16%, just under 3,000,000 voters.
The county approval rating was lowest for Proposition Four (water funding), which drew just over 60% of the votes statewide, while Proposition Ten (temporary property tax exemption) passed with more than 95% of the votes statewide and also had the highest total in the county.
