County sets hearings for 911, airport

Wood County commissioners set a pair of public hearings on Friday to be held on Oct. 14.

The first would be for considering a change in the 911 emergency addressing standards.

The standard for creation of a private road for addressing standard is three or more residences.

Commissioners will consider increasing that to five or more, in line with most other area counties.

Prec. 4 Commissioner Russell Acker said many of the private roads are for residences of multiple family members who do not wish to have the private road designation.

Having that designation, however, gives more accuracy to locating a residence in an emergency.

Also on the 14th commissioners will consider designating the Wood County Airport as a reinvestment zone.

The move would help address long-range plans to create facilities to host schools for several aviation-related businesses such as flight training and aviation mechanics, as well as other opportunities for airport business development.

The airport project to extend the runway to 5,000 feet to accommodate business jets is nearing completion.

Commissioners also approved a plan that would extend accidental death and dismemberment benefits to employees who suffer such losses while in the line of duty, at no additional cost to the county.
