Bulldogs roll to back-to-back dominant wins
The Quitman Bulldogs baseball team dominated the diamonds this week, securing back-to-back shutout victories over Winona.
Quitman wasted no time setting the tone for both games, jumping out to big leads in the opening inning each time. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs erupted for a massive first inning, capitalizing on timely hits and aggressive baserunning. They continued to build momentum in the second inning with additional extra-base hits, then broke the game wide open in the third by scoring nine more runs. The inning was highlighted by a mix of clutch hits and aggressive play, including an inside-the-park home run that energized the dugout.
That early-game success carried into Friday’s matchup, where Quitman once again came out swinging. The Bulldogs started off big again, scoring nine runs in the first inning to quickly seize control. They continued to apply pressure in the second inning by playing smart, which included a well-executed sacrifice bunt. They also added five more runs in the third inning behind key extra-base hits and continued offensive discipline.
Over the two games, the Bulldogs’ offense proved both powerful and consistent. Quitman tallied hits up and down the lineup. Davis Watson led the team with a standout week at the plate, driving in runs and consistently finding ways to get on base. Juan Ramirez, Jimmy Mulllican, Logan Davis, and Colten Barkdull also exhibited strong performances, contributing multiple hits and RBIs. The Bulldogs also combined for 18 stolen bases across the two games and consistently put runners in scoring position.
The pitching staff was equally impressive, delivering two complete shutouts. Canin Peppers and Davis Watson each earned wins with efficient, scoreless innings. The bullpen followed Peppers and Watson’s leads, providing scoreless relief and maintaining control throughout both games.
Quitman will look to carry that momentum forward as they prepare for their next matchups against Eustace.
