Bulldog battle goes to Edgewood
The Quitman Bulldogs faced a tough challenge Friday night on the road against the Edgewood Bulldogs, ultimately falling 62-7 in district play.
Edgewood came out firing, scoring on their opening drive and quickly adding two more touchdowns to take a commanding 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Quitman’s offense struggled early, forced to punt on several possessions as Edgewood’s high-powered offense capitalized on every opportunity.
In the second quarter, Quitman began to find rhythm behind quarterback Jonathan Hayes. A 30-yard pass to receiver Jayden Slagle gave the Bulldogs their first major gain of the night. On the next series, Hayes connected with Slagle again on another 30-yard strike – this time for Quitman’s lone touchdown of the evening. The successful extra point brought the score to 35-7, showcasing the growing chemistry between Hayes and Slagle.
Edgewood, however, continued its offensive surge, tacking on another touchdown before halftime to extend the lead to 41-7.
The second half saw Edgewood maintain control, adding three more touchdowns to close out the game with a 62-7 victory.
