Bri Bagwell brings music, stories and Texas spirit to Winnsboro
Texas country music fans packed the Bowery Stage on Friday night as award-winning singer-songwriter Bri Bagwell delivered an intimate acoustic performance filled with music, storytelling and laughter.
Bagwell, a nine-time Texas Female Vocalist of the Year and recipient of the Texas Female Artist of the Decade honor, took the stage at 7:30 p.m. June 20 before a full house eager to hear songs spanning her career, along with some newly written material.
The evening showcased not only Bagwell’s powerful vocals but also her ability to connect with an audience on a personal level. Between songs, she shared stories from the road, humorous anecdotes and the inspiration behind some of her music, creating the feeling of a gathering among friends rather than a traditional concert.
From the moment she stepped onto the stage, the crowd responded enthusiastically, singing along to familiar favorites while listening attentively to new songs that offered a glimpse into the next chapter of her songwriting career.
Dressed in a white cowboy hat, white sleeveless top, blue jeans and boots, Bagwell embodied the spirit of Texas country music. A colorful Western neck scarf and turquoise jewelry completed the look, reflecting the Southwestern roots that have become part of her identity and stage presence.
Throughout the night, Bagwell demonstrated the versatility that has helped make her one of the most respected performers on the Texas music scene. Accompanying herself on acoustic guitar for much of the performance, she moved effortlessly between upbeat crowd favorites and more reflective songs. She also showcased her piano skills throughout the evening, highlighting her talents as a multi-instrumentalist.
Her vocal performance was equally dynamic. At times, her voice carried the strength and intensity needed to command the room. In quieter moments, she delivered lyrics with a softer, more intimate touch that drew listeners into each story.
The emotional range of the performance was evident throughout the evening. During some songs, Bagwell smiled broadly and joked with audience members, creating an atmosphere of joy and celebration. During others, she appeared completely immersed in the music, closing her eyes as she delivered heartfelt lyrics that resonated throughout the venue.
Born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and now based in New Braunfels, Bagwell has built a career on songs that speak to everyday experiences. Whether writing about romance, heartbreak, adventure or life in the American West, her music connects with listeners through its authenticity and relatable storytelling.
In many ways, her songwriting follows a tradition established by some of country music’s greatest storytellers. Just as Merle Haggard was often referred to as the poet of the common man, Bagwell’s songs frequently capture the emotions, struggles and triumphs of ordinary people. Her catalog includes everything from tender love songs to tales of heartache and even Western-inspired gunfighter ballads.
That ability to tell compelling stories through music was on full display in Winnsboro.
Audience members laughed during humorous moments, applauded after emotional performances and remained engaged throughout the evening. The intimate setting allowed fans to experience the music in a way that larger venues often cannot provide, creating a connection between performer and audience that lasted from the opening song to the final encore.
The strong turnout reflected both Bagwell’s popularity and the continued success of live music events at the Bowery Stage. Fans traveled from across East Texas and beyond to attend the concert, filling seats and demonstrating their support for one of Texas country music’s most celebrated artists.
Following the performance, Bagwell spent time meeting fans near the merchandise table, signing autographs, taking photographs and thanking attendees for their support. The meet-and-greet offered concertgoers the opportunity to speak with the artist in person and share their appreciation for the evening’s performance.
After the show, Bagwell expressed gratitude for the reception she received in Winnsboro.
She said she is always thankful for the people of Winnsboro who come out to support live music and described the evening as a fantastic show.
As the crowd slowly made its way out of the venue, many lingered to talk about favorite songs and memorable moments from the performance. It was clear that Bagwell had left a lasting impression on those in attendance.
For one evening, the Bowery Stage became more than just a concert venue. It became a place where music, stories and community came together — a fitting setting for an artist whose songs continue to capture the heart and spirit of Texas.
