Big Sandy sweeps A-GHS
Someone once famously said, “Timing is everything.” In high school volleyball that is definitely the case.
Last Tuesday, the Alba-Golden Lady Panthers headed to Big Sandy to take on the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Panthers simply did not bring their timing.
Coming off a big win over Mineola less than a week ago, the young Lady Panthers team had experienced what volleyball is like when the timing is clicking.
Last Tuesday, they got the bitter experience of playing the game when the timing is absent.
It was a straight set win for Big Sandy. In game one, seven of the eight Lady Panther service opportunities resulted in turning the service back over to the home side.
Alba-Golden regrouped for the second set. Fueled by an excellent service turn by Erin Langston, the Lady Panthers jetted ahead to a 12-4 lead. Langston’s service turn included two aces and was capped off by a Kaylee Anglin kill after a long defensive stand.
Mis-hits dominated the nip-and-tuck action of game two. Anglin drilled another kill to take a 23-21 lead. The last four scores, however, went to Big Sandy, as did the set. It was just tough to string together productivity.
The third set featured competitive and at times desperate play.
Despite stretches of quality volleyball, and emphatic scores by Anglin, Skyler West and Cacie Lennon, the Lady Panthers just did not have their whole game.
Big Sandy used two 5-point runs to secure the third set and score the match sweep 25-10, 25-23, 25-18.
The Lady Panthers travel to Yantis Friday and have a bye Sept. 14.
