Bernard “Bernie” Burnett, 87, passed away on March 22, 2023 at his family home in Van Alstyne with his loving wife Pam, by his side.  

Bernie was born in Erie, Penn. on Aug. 1, 1935 to John and Ruth Burnett. Bernie spent his early childhood in Pennsylvania, later moving to Rock Springs, Wyo. Bernie was the third of six children. 

Bernie joined the United States Air Force in 1954, serving with distinction until he was honorably discharged in 1964. Following his discharge, Bernie began his civil service employment at Point Mugu Naval Air Station near Camarillo, Calif. Bernie held multiple civil service positions over his 30-year tenure but decided to retire from the FAA in 1995 and move to Hawkins and worked as a security guard at Holly Lake Ranch and the Hawkins Brookshires.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Pam; five children, Steven Burnett of San Jose, Calif., Dave Burnett (Patty) of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Mike Burnett (Janie) of Phoenix, Ariz., Julie Parker (Wayne) of Trabuco Canyon, Calif. and Kelly Willard (Mark) of Hawkins. In addition, Bernie and Pam share 23 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a number of nephews, nieces and cousins.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Burnett; his sisters, Betty Burnett, Mollie Smith and her husband Hamilton and Ruthie Burnett; his brother, John Burnett; his niece, Karen Yenne; in-laws, Gene and Cheryl Wright; and daughter-in-law; Brenda Burnett.   

Bernie was loved by many, his sense of humor will forever be remembered, as will his work ethic and value of family. He will be missed immensely, but he will never be forgotten.  

Bernie’s Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22 at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne.
