Alba Library and Museum
The Alba Public Library & Museum will celebrate its 15th anniversary April 18 with the posting of Alba-Golden students’ works, desserts inspired by a tour of the museum, a 5K run, a large book sale and a museum and library tour.
Fifteen years ago, volunteers were strategizing, building bookshelves, planning, receiving books from all over the area and learning how to create a well-run library and museum. The museum has become a showplace, with artifacts from Alba and communities beyond.
Here is a list of activities for everyone on April 18:
1. View the Alba-Golden students’ works, which are inspired by a tour of the museum. Also, partake of the desserts that the students will have made based on historical recipes.
2. 5K runners will meet at the square at 7 a.m. to begin their run. Participation in the run requires a $25 entry fee. This fee will help pay for an artist to create a mural outside the library. Flyers with information on the 5K are posted many places and are also displayed on Facebook. If interested, call 903-765-2665.
3. Grab a sack of books for 50 cents from the book sale in the back room of the library. Hundreds of books are available.
4. Visitors can experience Alba’s past with a museum tour.
5. The community can come into the library and view the thousands of books available. Anyone can sign up for a library card, no matter where “home” is. The library’s patrons are all over the U.S., thanks to Lake Fork fishing and summer vacationers.
