Recognitions dominated the proceedings last week. The board recognized student-athletes from spring sports and students of the theater program for their participation and accomplishments.
The board honored Linda Sherwood and Megan Kohllefel as the elementary and secondary teachers of the year, respectively. Employees of the year were named as elementary school secretary Amanda Crutchfield and secondary counselor Starla Bryant. Antonio Esquivel and Brenda Davidson received recognition as substitutes of the year.
Sherwood also received designation as the employee of the month for elementary and was joined by secondary school employee of the month Rebecca Cavitt.
Penelope Cortez (elementary), Braelyn Massie and Emma Bohannan (secondary school) achieved student of the month titles.
The board unanimously approved new teaching hires Cassidi Burris, John Clump, Kaitlyn Copeland, Cody Easley, Allison Ragsdale, Payton Sapp, Sara Turrentine and Skylar Weems.
The board also approved a bid from Sam Gibbs Instruments of Wichita Falls for band instrument purchases of just over $120,000.
In other action, Wood County Tax Office representative Angela Luman was unanimously approved as the Alba-Golden designated officer for the Truth in Taxation program.
During superintendent’s comments, discussion ensued on options for constructing visitors’ bleachers on the east side of the football field.
The full board was in attendance. The next regularly-scheduled board meeting is Monday, June 15.
