AGISD forms facility study committee
Alba-Golden superintendent Shelby Davidson reported on the formation of the Panther Legacy Vision Team at the Monday, Sept. 22 school board meeting. The 36-member Vision Team has been charged to provide the board with recommendations for new construction capital projects.
Davidson advised that the team will meet once a month over the next four months with the intention of providing recommendations to the board early in the new year. The team is composed of community members, district employees and students.
Also before the board Monday was the approval of a resolution regarding Senate Bill 12, which delineates state-mandated parental rights. The resolution adopting the bill passed by a vote of 4-2. Board members Kristopher Quintana and Mike Ragsdale voted against the resolution.
The lack of unanimous support for the resolution indicates that while the parental rights have been mandated by the state, exactly how each of the 25 measures will be operationalized has not yet been determined.
The board did unanimously approve the construction of a caliche road on the newly-purchased property just to the north of the campus. SWEPCO will be replacing a switch-pole on that property and has requested approval for the caliche road be cut to the new pole. SWEPCO paid the district $5,500 for the easement to the switch-pole.
Toliver Ford took advantage of the recommencement of the scholastic year to present Alba-Golden softball hurler Adielyn Smith the Player of the Month award for the month of May. Smith has been a stand-out pitcher in East Texas in 2025 and is expected to continue her dominance in the circle this upcoming season.
The board recognized Lonnie Hays as elementary school student of the month. Kayla Andrade and Mason Smith were introduced as the secondary school students of the month. Employees of the month were Laurel Venable and Leah Bales-Sherwood, at the elementary and secondary schools, respectively.
Other actions taken by the board included approvals of a tax collection contract with Rains County, the school board calendar for 2025-26, a review of the investment policy and designation of the superintendent and the finance director as investment officers.
Trustee Brad Lennon was the sole absentee.
