402nd District court defendants enter guilty pleas

Thirty criminal cases were prosecuted through guilty pleas during May in 402nd District Court in Quitman.

 “During the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions concerning in-person hearings, it was difficult to move cases,” District Attorney Angela Albers said. “We have spent the last several months getting cases set for pleas in both the county and district courts.

Among those sentenced in district court were the following:

Meagan Renae Sims was convicted of four counts of sexual assault of a child and sentenced to 15 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division and lifetime registration as a sex offender and $1,000 fine plus court costs.

Michael Shaun Smith was convicted of aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon and sentenced to 16 years in state prison; $10,000 fine; $3,695 restitution and court costs.

Christopher Roy Mosher was convicted of prohibited substance/item in a correctional facility; possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1, four grams or more but less than 200 grams; prohibited substance in a correctional facility-alcohol/drug/phone/tobacco and was sentenced to seven years in state prison on each case; $1,000 fine plus court costs.

Felix Ramirez Rodriguez was convicted of driving while intoxicated and sentenced to 120 days in the Wood County Jail plus court costs.

Bobby James Smitty was convicted of possession of controlled substance, penalty group 1, less than one gram and was sentenced to two years in prison probated for 2 years; $500 fine, $180 restitution and court costs.

Jennifer Leigh Clanton was convicted of possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, one gram or more but less than four grams and was sentenced to 10 years in state prison probated for six years; $500 fine and $180 restitution plus court costs.

Veda Hope Vellenoweth was convicted of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and was sentenced to 120 days in the Wood County Jail; $2,500 restitution plus court costs.

Hayden Lynn Foreman was convicted of possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, one gram or more but less than four grams and sentenced to five years in state prison plus court costs.

Leon Don Lane was convicted of assault causing bodily injury - family violence and was sentenced to one year in the Wood County Jail plus court costs. Lane was also convicted of tampering with a witness and sentenced to five years in state prison, $1,000 fine and court costs.

Johnny Ray Tudor Jr. waived indictment and pled guilty to tamper/fabricate physical evidence with intent to impair and was sentenced to five years in state prison probated for five years along with a $1,500 fine plus court costs. Tudor also pled guilty to possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, less than one gram and was sentenced to two years in prison probated for five years; $180 reimbursement fee plus court costs.

Thomas Vincent Meek was convicted of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and sentenced to nine months in the Wood County Jail plus court costs.

Christopher Paul Starrett was convicted of assault causing bodily injury family/household member and was sentenced to nine months in the Wood County Jail plus court costs.

Douglas Edward Gilliam was convicted of possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, less than one gram and was sentenced to two years in state prison plus court costs.

Meghan Michelle Lambert was convicted of manufacture delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, four grams or more, but less than 200 grams and sentenced to 10 years in state prison; $2,000 fine plus court costss.

Michael Lee McKinley was convicted of theft of property, less than $2,500 with two or more previous convictions and sentenced to six months in the Wood County Jail plus court costs.

Hugo Eduardo Hernandez was convicted of attempt to commit escape while arrested/confined and sentenced to 10 months in state jail plus court costs.

Anita Desiree Stockstill was convicted of burglary of a habitation and sentenced to three years in state prison plus court costs.

Brandon Scott Hicks was revoked on his probation for the offense of possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, less than one gram and was sentenced to two years in state jail; $675 fine and court costs. Hicks was also convicted of driving while intoxicated third or more and was sentenced to five years in state prison and court costs.

Johnny Kevin Crawford Jr. was convicted of theft of property -  $2,500 or more, but less than $30,000 and possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, less than gram and was sentenced to 18 months in state jail; $500 fine plus court costs. Crawford was also convicted on three counts of burglary of a building and sentenced to six months in state jail; $1,568 restitution and court costs.

Brian Lee Barnett was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and sentenced to six years in state prison, $1,000 fine and court costs.

Anthony Jay Chamberlain was convicted of possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, less than one gram and sentenced to state jail for 12 months, $1,000 fine and court costs.

Mason Monday was convicted of evading arrest detention with vehicle-use or exhibit deadly weapon and sentenced to seven years in state prison plus court costs. Monday was also convicted of evading arrest detention with a previous conviction and sentenced to six months in the Wood County Jail plus court costs.

Coleton Taylor Shrum was convicted of possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, less than one gram and sentenced to 10 months in state jail, $500 fine and court costs.

Brandon Wayne Sharp was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and sentenced to eight years in state prison plus court costs.
