July 14

Deputy Linda Williams was dispatched to a residence on CR 4440 for the theft of a Harley Davidson. According to the complainant, the motorcycle did not run and had been sitting on the porch for over a year. He was also able to show Williams fresh scratch marks on the wood, where the Harley had been sitting, that he believes were made from a loading ramp which was also missing. This case has been forwarded for continued investigation.

Sgt. David Brown initiated a traffic stop in the area of SH 182 and CR 1612 after observing a vehicle with a defective headlamp. During his contact with the driver, Sgt. Brown noticed the man seemed to be positioning himself in the seat as if he was concealing something. The driver declined Brown’s request to search the vehicle. Sgt. Austin Milbourn and his K9 partner were called to the scene and arrived a short time later. The K9 conducted an open air sniff of the vehicle which resulted in a positive alert for narcotics. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, the deputies located drug paraphernalia as well as a clear plastic bag containing a clear crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine. The driver, Dennis Ryan-Wayne Moody, 44, of Quitman was arrested and charged with possession of controlled substance, penalty proup 1, less than one gram.

Deputy Jonah Croney was dispatched to PR 7422 just after 1:00 a.m. for a theft report. The complainant stated he had returned home about 12:30 a.m. from a fishing trip. On his return he found items missing from his porch. The missing items were described as a Yeti cooler, a small lunch cooler and a tackle box. The man was able to provide photos of the Yeti cooler to assist in the investigation. The case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID).

July 16

Deputy John Cooper was dispatched to an address at Holiday Villages for a theft report. A man reported that he had been gone from his residence since early June and had returned to find his golf cart missing. Cooper recorded identifying information about the golf cart and forwarded the case for investigation.

Deputy Williams responded to the area of SH 154 near CR 3170 just after 7:30 a.m. for a child found walking down the highway on the yellow line with cars passing by. A Good Samaritan stopped and placed the child in her vehicle for safety before notify authorities. The 6-year-old was very talkative and told the woman he was on his way to his brother’s house at Lake Fork. The child also told Williams he was mad at his mom because she made him eat some pizza, but he wanted his pet to have it instead. The child’s father arrived a short time later and explained that his wife was bedridden and had called him to find the child. Williams noted the child had no signs of abuse or neglect. A report was made with Child Protective Services.

Deputy Cooper took a report of a scam from an Alba man who stated he was sent a message on his computer stating there were issues with the computer and the sender of the message stated he could fix the computer remotely. The complainant agreed to let the man perform work on the computer. After the work was complete, the complainant discovered a charge to his PayPal account of $360 that he did not authorize. The man had already contacted all his financial institutions to check for other transactions but found none. An incident report was completed for documentation purposes.

Deputy Jon Ritterbach responded to an address on CR 4865 in response to an assault. As he was approaching the scene, a vehicle was attempting to leave. Ritterbach instructed the female driver to stop several times, but she did not comply. As she was a suspect in the assault which had just occurred, Ritterbach got into his patrol unit and followed the woman with his emergency lights activated. The woman ignored his attempt to stop her and continued to flee traveling up to 110 mph at times. The woman was finally stopped after a DPS trooper assisted and placed stop sticks in her path. Sgt. Milbourn and Deputy Jaclyn Skinner arrived to assist as well. The vehicle’s driver, Samantha Lee Moore, 44, of Winnsboro faces multiple charges including injury to an elderly person, family violence; evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle; and possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1, more than one gram and less than four grams.

July 17

Deputy Williams responded to a residence on FM 778 for criminal trespass. The complainant stated he mows the yard for the owner and believes that an ex-tenant’s son was living in the house without permission. Williams contacted the homeowner and received permission to enter the house. Sgt. David Smith aided in the entry and search of the house. The suspect was not located. The house had sustained some damage, which was reported to the owner. The owner stated she did not wish to pursue charges but did wish to have a criminal trespass warning issued to the suspect if/when he was located.

Deputies McKenzie Chandler and Sgt. Milbourn responded to an address at Holiday Villages for a report of a physical disturbance. The reporting party stated his ex-girlfriend came over uninvited and was banging on the door before making entry. According to the man, the ex-girlfriend punched him and then proceeded to the bathroom where his current girlfriend was located and punched her, too. The man stated he was escorting his ex out of the house when she broke a window on the front porch by punching it. The woman received damage to her arm from the broken glass and was bleeding so she was allowed back inside. While back inside the residence, the woman began throwing her blood everywhere. Additionally, she threw her blood on a three-year-old child who was sitting on the couch. The woman fled the scene once she realized the man was calling the sheriff’s office. Deputies conducted a cursory search of the area where the woman may have fled but were unsuccessful. CID Sgt. Jeremy Ragsdale responded to begin an investigation which is ongoing.

Sgt. Jeremy Smith responded to an address on FM 1804 for a criminal trespass and burglary reportedly committed by the previous resident. The complainant was able to show Smith photos from a game camera which showed the previous resident on the property removing gardening tools. The suspect was later located riding his bicycle toward Mineola. George Daniel Dobsch, 56, of Mineola was arrested and transported to jail where he faces charges of criminal trespass and burglary of a building.

Deputy Williams responded to an address on FM 49 in reference to damaged property. The reporting party showed Williams mail that appeared to have been burned and smelled of sulfur. The lid to the mailbox was located up in a tree and the body of the mailbox was on the ground along with the burned mail. The reporting party stated she had been awakened around 5:00 a.m. by a large boom that shook the house. She also stated she believed it to be kids playing around, but did wish to pursue charges. This case remains under investigation.

Deputy Cooper took a report of threats from a Quitman man who advised he had received threats from his brother via text message that caused him to be in fear of a physical assault. The threats stemmed from his brother’s use of a utility trailer for work purposes in Corpus Christi. The trailer belonged to the man’s grandmother and was only to be used to haul a lawnmower locally. The complainant received the threatening messages after he made his grandmother aware of the situation with the trailer. This case has been forwarded to CID. 

July 18

Deputy Cooper was dispatched to CR 4150 for a theft. The complainant stated he had recently evicted two tenants from a rental property he owns. In inspecting the property after they left, he found the washer and dryer to be missing as well as a 42” flat screen TV. The total value of the missing items is $800. Information was recorded regarding possible suspects. This case has been forwarded to CID.

July 19

Deputy LaDawn McGee was dispatched to an address on CR 1576 for a theft. The reporting party stated she was the caretaker for an elderly woman who could no longer care for herself and had moved the woman here from the Metroplex. According to the caretaker, the woman’s daughter had visited her about two weeks ago from San Diego and after the daughter left, the woman had noticed a charge to her debit card in the amount of $49. They also discovered checks written from the woman’s account totaling $8,500. This case remains under investigation.

July 20

Deputy McKenzie Chandler responded to an address on CR 3879 for a possible burglary in progress. The reporting party stated he saw what he believed was lights at his neighbor’s abandoned property and when he confronted the people at the house they took off in their vehicles. One of the occupants of the vehicle reportedly stuck a handgun out the window and fired one time. The man followed the vehicles and was able to record the license plate number of one of them. Deputy Chandler, along with Sgt. David Brown, observed a front window of the house was busted out and the front door was standing open. Inside they found a gun safe which appeared to have been pried open and several jewelry boxes which had been opened. Evidence was collected at the scene and this case remains under investigation.

Deputy Corbin Hanner was dispatched to CR 4591 at 12:14 a.m. for a physical disturbance in progress. While en route, Deputy Hanner was notified that the aggressor was no longer at the scene and had fled on foot. A cursory search of the area was done, but the man was not located. Deputy Hanner made contact with the victim and noted she had sustained multiple apparent minor injuries to her facial area, her lower lip was swollen, and she had a small puncture mark on the right side. There was also a small laceration and swelling near her eye. The victim completed a family violence packet and requested an emergency protective order be issued. Hanner recorded the victim’s statement regarding the altercation. Sgt. Brown continued to search the area for the suspect. The case was forwarded to CID for follow up.

Deputy Hanner took a report of a possible missing person from a Bay City man who stated his 81-year-old mother was supposed to be driving down to his house from her residence on CR 4287 in the Winnsboro area. The man stated he had been unable to contact his mother due to her cell phone being dead and going straight to voicemail. Her arrival time at his house was supposed to be 6-7 p.m. and it was now after 2:30 a.m. The man also did not declare his mother to have any severe medical issues so a Silver Alert could not be issued. Deputy Hanner did see that a BOLO alert was issued.
