Wood County Sheriff’s Report

April 1

Deputy Jonah Croney was dispatched to FM 515 for a reckless driver. Croney located the vehicle at a gas station and made contact with the driver, who admitted to smoking marijuana 20 minutes prior and gave consent to search his vehicle. Shane Carle King Davis, 25, of Sanger was arrested for outstanding warrants.

Deputy Andrew Rapp responded to CR 2195 for a theft report. The reporting party stated her boyfriend stole multiple electronics from the residence. The case was forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID).

Sgt. Austin Milbourn received a call regarding a disturbance on FM 49. Deputy McKenzie Chandler also responded to the location due to the reported presence of a weapon. They made contact with the suspect, who told them the weapon was in the residence.  Parties were separated, and deputies cleared the location.

April 2

Deputy Brad Cox was dispatched to W. Hwy 154 for a suspicious person. The reporting party stated an unknown male was knocking on her door. Deputy Cox located the individual walking on Hwy. 154. While speaking with the subject, they learned that he was involved in an accident in Hopkins County, where he had fled the scene. Due to his level of intoxication, Michael Anthony Kaufman, 29, of Haltom City was arrested for public intoxication. Once at the jail, Detention Sgt. Hurst notified Deputy Cox of a pill bottle containing multiple pills. Kaufman was also charged with prohibited substance/item in a correctional facility.

Deputy Linda Williams met with a reporting party in the lobby of the sheriff’s office regarding a fraud report. The reporting party stated her son’s girlfriend has withdrawn funds from her account without authorization.  The report will be forwarded to CID.

Deputy Michael Allison responded to CR 2370 for a theft report. The reporting party advised he loaned a trailer to a friend, but they have not returned it. A case will be forwarded to CID.

Sgt. Heather Bailey was dispatched to FM 2869 for a burglary of a vehicle. She met with a reporting party who stated someone stole numerous work tools from his vehicle. The case is being forwarded to CID.

April 3

Deputy Andrew Morrison was dispatched to CR 2263 for a disturbance. They met a female who was intoxicated. Witnesses advised that she was upset because they would not allow her to leave while she was intoxicated. She assaulted two members of her family. Diane Renee Doherty, 24, of Providence Village was arrested for assault causes bodily injury – family violence.

April 4

Deputy Chandler responded to a suspicious vehicle call on N. FM 17. Chandler located the vehicle and made contact with the driver. When the driver handed Chandler someone else’s driver’s license, he asked the driver to step out of the vehicle. When he did, a small baggie of marijuana fell to the ground.  When contact was made with the passenger, the driver became agitated and failed to comply with officer commands. When other units arrived, the vehicle was searched. More marijuana, methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia were located in the vehicle. Jacob Tomeis Lyda, 30, of Linden was arrested for abandon/endanger child-criminal negligence since there was a child in the vehicle.

Deputy Cox was patrolling Hwy. 37 when he noticed a male walking on the wrong side of the roadway. When Cox made contact, he reported to him he was in an altercation, and he wished to press charges. The report will be forwarded to CID.

Deputy Cole Hudson conducted a traffic stop on CR 2128. When contact was made with the driver, Deputy Hudson smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. When asked if someone had smoked marijuana in the vehicle, she replied yes. Hudson conducted a search of the vehicle where he located drug paraphernalia, marijuana and methamphetamines. Tessa Elizabeth Fisher, 18, of Quitman was arrested for possession of a controlled substance PG 1 less than one gram.

Deputy Hudson conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 37. Contact was made with the driver and passenger.  The driver did not have a driver’s license with her. During the stop, the driver admitted to Hudson that there was marijuana in the vehicle. From further investigation, it was learned the passenger had methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Raya Maleah Underwood, 21, of Caddo Mills was arrested for possession of a controlled substance PG 1 less than one gram.

April 5

Deputy Dustin Green conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 154. When Deputy Green made contact with the driver, he had red blood shot eyes and slurred speech. The driver was not able to hold his balance without swaying. He admitted to having consumed alcohol. Jose Guadalupe Yanez, 45, of Sulphur Springs was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Deputy Rapp took a report of sexual abuse of a child from CR 2503. The case will be forwarded to CID.

Deputy Jon Ritterbach took a theft report on Holiday Village Drive. The complainant advised someone stole his trailer. The neighbor did observe someone back up to the trailer, hook up to it and drive off. The report is being forwarded to CID.

Deputy Linda Williams and Deputy Jonah Croney responded to two calls regarding the same individual.  Deputy Croney was dispatched to CR 1681 for a terroristic threat, where the suspect told a relative he was going to kill him. The second call came in a short time later, with Deputy Williams responding to CR 2378 for an assault call. Deputies attempted to locate the suspect, who had left the scene, and were unable to locate him.

Deputy Ritterbach met with a complainant in the lobby of the sheriff’s office for a debit card abuse report. The complainant advised there were four large transactions on her account which she did not authorize. A report will be forwarded to CID.

April 6

Deputy Croney was dispatched to CR 2180 for a criminal mischief. The complainant advised someone cut his fence. This is not the first time this has happened and requested this report be added to his other reports.

April 7

Deputy Hudson responded to the UT Health Quitman emergency room in reference to an assault. The reporting party, who had visible injuries, said his stepson had assaulted him an hour before. When the deputy spoke with the suspect, he admitted to having a conflict with his stepfather. He also admitted to the assault. Charles Jordon Turner, 34, of Burleson was arrested for assault causes bodily injury – family violence.

Deputy Chandler conducted a traffic stop on FM 779. He made contact with the driver and noticed the registration sticker had been altered. After brief questioning, Chandler asked for consent to search for the vehicle. The driver denied owning the vehicle after saying she bought the car a few weeks earlier.  D Chandler deployed canine Major to search around the vehicle. The dog alerted to the driver’s door.  Chandler asked the driver about it, and she admitted to having prescription medications that did not belong to her. Shanoa Kay Burns, 34, of Alba was arrested for possession of a controlled substance PG more than three grams and less than 28 grams.

Deputy John Cooper was dispatched to speak with an individual in the sheriff’s office lobby. The complainant stated someone cashed a check off his account without his consent. This case will be forwarded to CID.

Sgt. Heather Bailey responded to a suspicious person on FM 779. She met with the reporting party, who advised a male had been walking around the store and was now sitting in his vehicle. Bailey made contact with the man, who had unclear speech. CID investigators arrived to assist Bailey. They spoke to the complainant more while Bailey was speaking with the man. The complainant advised she saw the subject with illegal narcotics. Pct. 2 Constable canine Mata was deployed around the vehicle,and alerted to the passenger side. Deputies began searching the vehicle where they located methamphetamine.  James William Richey, 28, of Henderson was arrested for possession of a controlled substance PG 1, more than one gram and less than four grams.

Deputy Jaclyn Skinner conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 37. When she made contact with the driver and passenger, she noticed the smell of marijuana. When she asked about the marijuana, the driver handed her a container with marijuana in it. When she had both individuals get out of the vehicle, the passenger dropped a baggie with methamphetamine in it. Glen Lee McGill, 57, of Quitman was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, PG 1 more than one gram and less than four grams.
