Winnsboro girls defeat Mineola in regional semifinals; Mineola boys top Ponder for area – Madison next
Winnsboro stopped Mineola 59-51 in the semifinal of the girls regional basketball tournament Friday in Prosper.
Winnsboro advanced to the regional final Saturday afternoon to face the winner between Howe and Chapel Hill, who played in the second game.
The winner of that game advances to the state tournament in San Antonio next week.
Chapel Hill is the defending state champ.
In the boys area championship, Mineola edged Ponder 52-42 in Princeton.
The Yellowjackets will face top-ranked Dallas Madison in the regional quarterfinals early next week.
