Whitehouse wins battle in Mineola
The Yellowjackets were just shy of Whitehouse, 42-36, when they hosted the Wildcats on Jan. 5, despite Mineola being short three players for the game.
Scoring was hard to come by.
There was one stretch a couple minutes into the game when Mineola held possession for nearly a full minute. That they were able to stay in their offense and continue to move the ball was impressive, but it was the lack of passing lanes allowed by the Wildcat defense that told the story of the night.
The Yellowjackets trailed 9-7 after eight minutes.
The game remained tight with ties at nine and 11 each. Early in the second quarter, Whitehouse found slight advantages and hit some free throws, taking a 19-14 lead into the half.
Though Mineola drew within three, the Wildcats would grow their margin again in the third to 31-23.
Hunter vanDover had a solid bounce pass assist to Jaxon Holland, followed up with solid defense on the press forcing and errant pass, which Dawson Pendergrass intercepted. The Yellowjackets were making an effort to get back in the game, getting back within five late, but it was not enough.
