Two wins, three runnerup finishes and a wildcard bid will send 10 student-athletes from Alba-Golden, Mineola and Quitman to the state high school track meet following performances at regional meets Friday and Saturday.

Two wins, three runnerup finishes and a wildcard bid will send 10 student-athletes from Alba-Golden, Mineola and Quitman to the state high school track meet following performances at regional meets Friday and Saturday.

Jake Hallman of Alba-Golden took second in the 100-meter dash in the Region 2-2A meet Springtown to earn his spot.

Quitman’s Brooklyn Marcee won the pole vault and added a second qualifying event as runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles in the Region 2-3A meet in Whitehouse.

Olivia Hughes of Mineola also earned two spots with a win in the 800-meter run and as a member of the 4x400-meter relay team which placed third and then earned the final qualifying spot as best of the four regional third-place teams. She joins Kozbie Riley, Carmen Carrasco  and Shylah Kratzmeyer.

The Quitman boys also got a spot in the 4x400-relay placing second to Atlanta.

The Conference 3A state meet will be Thursday, May 12 at the Mike Myers track stadium on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin. Conference 2A will be the following day.

Marcie and Kratzmeyer just missed additional spots as Marcee was third in the 300-meter hurdles and Kratzmeyer third in the pole vault.

It will mark a return trip for Marcee, who qualified last year in the 300-meter hurdles.

She topped the field in the pole vault at 12’6” and ran a 15.65 in the 100-meter hurdle finals after a 16.08 in the preliminary heat.

Her 46.37 in the 300-meter hurdles was just a quarter-second out of second place, after running a 48.4 in the prelims. She also placed 8th in the long jump at 16’10.25”.

Bulldogs Cason Johnson, Dalton Crowson, Brandon Jimenez and Jack Tannebaum ran a 3:26.36 in the prelims of the 4x400 relay, then knocked more than two and a half seconds off that for a 3:23.8 in the finals.

Ford Tannebaum scored a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.18 after hitting 15.61 in the prelims. He just missed points in the 300-meter hurdles with a 7th place, running 40.65.

Hughes ran a 2:18.26 to win the 800 meters by .21 of a second. She also competed in the 400 meters as well as the relay team, which ran a 4:07.92 in the preliminaries and shaved more than four seconds with a 4:03.61 in the finals.

Kratzmeyer cleared 10” in the pole vault, just one spot out of qualifying for state.

The 800-meter relay team of Riley, Carrasco, Kratzmeyer and Tanner Hartzog placed 7th in 1:46.85.

Placing for Mineola boys were Jamarcus Kennedy, 4th in the 200 meters at 22.91; Andres Granocchia, 6th in the 800 meters at 2:03.95; JJ Gandy, 4th in the 300-meter hurdles in 40.38; and Dawson Pendergrass, 4th in the long jump at 21’5” and 6th in the triple jump at 42’11.25”

Hallman got his invite with an 11.08 in the 100-meter dash prelims, second fastest at the event, and backed it up with an 11.22 in the finals, as all the finals times were slightly slower.

Others competing for Quitman included Jaycie Elkins in the 100 meters and 200 meters, McKenna Wood in the 1600 meters and 3200 meters, Kendall Davis in the 3200 meters (7th place-12:49.14), Allison Berry in the triple jump, Brandon Jimenez in the 800 meters, Dakota Jimenez in the 1600 meters and the girls 4x400 relay team of Isis Murlin, Sadie Vander Schaaf, Brooklyn Marcee and Madyson Pence.

Other Mineola competitors were Jalia Freeman in the shot put, Adam Blalock in the pole vault, and DJ Newsome and Stephen Ogueri each in the shot put and discus.

Others competing for Alba-Golden were Hallman in the pole vault, Glenn Hartley in the 200 meters, Otis Lee in the 800 meters, Micah Smith in the 1600 meters and 3200 meters, Jerry Skinner in the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles, Jason Langston in the 110-meter hurdles, Gavin Parker in the long jump, Thai Peterson in the triple jump, Luke Morrison and Nick Hallman in the pole vault, the boys 800 and 1600-meter relay teams, Cacie Lennon in the 100 meters, long jump and shot put, Jana Weddle and Erin Langston in the 100-meter hurdles, Olivia Morrison in the pole vault and the girls 400 and 1600 meter relays.
