County-wide event to honor law enforcement and first responders
There will be plenty of food, entertainment, and great conversations this Thursday at Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
A group of Wood County residents decided they simply want law enforcement officers and first responders to know the local citizenry appreciates their efforts to keep the people of Wood County safe.
Officers, responders, and their families from all over Wood County are invited to go and enjoy a meal and the evening with their families.
“We decided we wanted to do something for all the men and women in law enforcement and all first responders just to let them know we all care. Most people have no idea the hardships some of these folks go through. Not only can the job be tough, but it’s hard on the families sometimes too, with their loved ones being in dangerous situations sometimes,” Janae Holland said. “We want everyone to be here, it’s a come-and-go type of thing. We have plenty of food for everyone and entertainment. I would also encourage the families to bring their young ones and bring a swimsuit to enjoy the Splash Pad.”
Quitman City Secretary / Administrator Greg Hollen looks forward to honoring the special group of people. “Each of our personal relationships with law enforcement is one of the most important in our individual and community lives,” Hollen noted. “Our special recognition of, and for, the people who wear that badge and that take those risks always deserves to be renewed and recognized….today we seek to shine light on that special bond we share with them to keep our community safe.”
Holland said Jim Hogg City Park is a good location for the event. “Jim Hogg Park is in the county seat, in the middle of the county. We want all of our city and county officers, and first responders, to be able to come by. It’s an event for the entire county’s law enforcement and first responders,” Holland said. “It’s just a simple way of saying thank you to all of these folks and their families.”
Former law enforcement officer Andre Thompson will perform with his band, Riding for the Son, on the stage at the pavilion during the evening. Holland added anyone is welcome to go by to visit with the officers and responders to show support and tell them thank you at the come and go affair.
